Ami Guichard

Ami Guichard was born in 1921 in Switzerland. His first job was working for the Swiss Consulate in Los Angeles. But he did not enjoy the work of a bureaucrat – he wanted to show his creativity. He was offered a publishing job in a Lausanne printing house, Presses Centrales, after a handwriting analysis had placed him first of 50 candidates! In the course of his activities he met Yves Debraine who was already a very well known photographer. The two of them created the idea of producing an annual car book and l’Année Automobile (known in English as Automobile Year) was born. Ami Guichard died on August 2, 1986.
