The Front Row for the 500: Peter Revson on pole with his McLaren-Offenhauser, in the middle Mark Donohue with the Sunoco (Penske) McLaren-Offenhauser, and on the outside Bobby Unser with Dan Gurney’s Eagle-Offenhauser. Revson would finish second to Bobby Unser's brother Al, while Bobby Unser would finish 12th and Donohue 25th, neither runnng at the end.
