| Jackie Stewart's Tyrrell 001 suffered engine trouble in practice, causing him to start Heat 1 from the rear of the grid. Despite a twice stuck throttle and losing a lap due to repairs, he went on to beat the lap record by two seconds to reach seventh place. His engine failed just before the end and he coasted over the line. He was a non-starter for Heat 2. |
