| Before the start the Jaguar works D-types line up in front of the pits. N. 2 carries the license number of the 1955 winner but is a new build to be driven by Paul Frère and Desmond Titterington. Both it and the n. 3 car of Jack Fairman and Ken Wharton would be eliminated by accidents in the first three laps while n. 1, driven by Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb – last year’s winning duo – would finish in sixth position. |
