Here is a close-up of Eugenio Castellotti next to his Ferrari “Squalo” walking to the grid before the start. Castellotti had been a driver for Lancia during 1955, but he joined Ferrari after Lancia withdrew from racing and handed over its equipment to Ferrari. At the Italian Grand Prix, which was run on the combined road and banked oval circuit, the former Lancia cars had very high tire wear in practice and Ferrari decided to stay with his own cars for the race. In this race, Castellotti finished an excellent third in an outclassed machine behind two Mercedes. The man with all the cameras coming up in the background is the well-known photojournalist Bernard Cahier.
