| The great Italian World Champion about to set out in his Lancia D50. In the hands of Ascari these Lancias were quite competitive with the new Mercedes. Unfortunately, toward the end of the race Ascari missed the Chicane and he and his car went into the harbor. He was not injured, but died testing a Ferrari sports car at Monza a few days later. |
