| After their stunning victory at Reims, the Mercedes team found a rather different challenge at Silverstone. Placing a Grand Prix car with envelope bodywork on an airport circuit marked by oil drums was far more difficult than they had foreseen. Here Juan Manuel Fangio’s car is already showing signs of these small collisions. Although taking pole position, the Argentinean champion was unable to hold off the Ferrari of his countryman Froilán González, and eventually others, having to settle for fourth place. |
