| As Juan Manuel Fangio passes the pits in the lead, Hermann Lang holds out the signal (being gently restrained by another team member) as Alfred Neubauer checks the lap time and looks for the second place car. Lang was, of course, a famous prewar Mercedes champion who had started one of the team’s cars in this race, but had spun and stalled his car and had returned to the pits. |
