The Le Mans 24 Hours; Le Mans, June 24-25, 1950

Reference #: 50C1-2

This is the Ferrari 195S barchetta of Luigi Chinetti and “Helde” (Pierre-Louis Dreyfus) being prepared for the race. It retired after 18 hours with rear axle failure. Chinetti, already a three-time Le Mans winner who would become the Ferrari importer for the USA, is just visible in the group at the front of the car. The man with his back to the camera is Monsieur Plisson, Chinetti’s partner in the Ferrari agency in Paris. To Plisson's right is Jean Lucas. Mrs. Chinetti sits at the right side of the photograph. This is a superb example of Klemantaski’s great talent for composition.
