| The French Grand Prix; Lyon, September 21, 1947 |

|
| In 1947 the oldest Grand Prix was held at Lyon where it had first taken place in 1914. Emmanuel "Toulo" de Graffenried was a "gentleman driver" of real talent, even winning one Grand Prix and heading the "Club des Anciens Pilotes" for many years after his retirement from racing. De Graffenried, however, retired here with engine failure. |
