The mechanics sit eating lunch on the Lancia D50’s (n. 4 is the car assigned to Eugenio Castellotti), newly handed over to Ferrari when Lancia was no longer financially able to continue as an independent team. Note the Lancia badges are still on the front of the bodywork, but now with Scuderia Ferrari shields on the sides. Although faster than the “Super-Squalo” Ferraris, the Lancias’ tires were considered unsuited to Monza’s high speed banking and the cars were withdrawn before the race. This photo is another example of Klemantaski’s sense of composition with the informal mechanics and their then high-tech cars in front of bales of wire in the background. |
